A new homeless shelter will soon be available in Blair County.
The current shelter in Altoona has been open and running, but only houses 16 beds.
Officials quickly realized they needed a bigger facility about 5 years ago and after multiple pandemic setbacks, they say the shelter is closer than ever to opening.
It will be located on North Branch Avenue and will house 35 people.
“We have accommodations to not only house them but to have a computer room available to do job searches and resumes. We have cooking facilities and opportunities for folks to come in and volunteer and support people why they are there so that this isn’t seen as the end of line for them this is seen as a jumping point for their new life”
If you or anyone you know is need of these services, you can contact Blair County Community Action.
