Tonight’s Greater Johnstown Landlord Association meeting included District Justice Dave Bear as a guest speaker.
He helped members understand current laws regarding landlords, their Tennants, and criminal activity on their properties.
Another topic discussed was squatting, which is a trend growing nationally where homeowners are losing their property due to what’s termed squatters rights
“Landlords are concerned about that. We really want to poll all the Magistrates to find out what their policy would be if a landlord comes in to file some type of action against a squatter. We want to make sure landlords rights are protected, we also want to make sure there isn’t unreasonable action taken against someone who may be homeless, or need other services.”
Hudec says he has not heard of many cases of squatting locally.
