Fatal Route 22 Accident

Authorities say Route 22 westbound in Cresson Township has reopened after being closed for nearly four hours following a fiery crash that left one person dead.

Investigators say the victim was traveling westbound when the vehicle reportedly left the roadway and struck a road sign before colliding with an embankment.

Police say the vehicle then crashed and overturned multiple times before it caught fire.

Officials say the vehicle was reportedly fully engulfed in flames when first responders arrived on scene.

State police and the Cambria County coroner’s office are investigating the cause of the crash.

Cambria County coroner Jeff Lees says an autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.
