Coroner Confirms Identity Of Human Remains Found In Mifflin County

The Mifflin County coroner’s office has positively identified the human remains that were found on a Brown Township property earlier this month.

Authorities say the remains are those of 51-year-old Joseph Anthony Shymanski, of Huntingtown, Maryland, who was reported missing on Labor Day.

Police say the missing persons investigation led authorities to the home of 47-year-old Brandon Holbrook, who has since been charged with murder in connection to Shymanski’s disappearance.

Shymanski was reportedly a prominent photographer in the D.C. area.

Authorities say detectives determined that foul play was suspected in his disappearance.

Investigators say his remains were discovered by a forensic anthropology team, in a wooded area, just a few hundred yards from Holbrook’s home.

Last week, a Mifflin County judge approved Holbrook’s extradition to Calvert County, Maryland.

Investigators noted that federal authorities are also involved in the case and will likely be handling any future charges against Holbrook, including charges related to the discovery of the remains.
