Authorities with the Clearfield County District Attorney’s office say a Centre County man was sentenced Monday for his role in a fatal crash that claimed the life of an Ohio woman and seriously injured her husband.
Police arrested Steven Hunt, now age 28, last spring following an investigation into the head-on collision that occurred along Route 322 in Bradford Township in October of 2021.
Authorities say Hunt was sentenced to serve 2 to 6 years in state prison on charges of homicide by vehicle and aggravated assault by vehicle.
Witnesses say Hunt was allegedly traveling at a high-rate of speed and had swerved into the opposite lane to avoid a rear-end collision, as traffic had been momentarily slowed as a commercial vehicle had stopped at a railroad crossing.
Police say Hunt then struck the Ohio couple’s truck head-on, resulting in both the driver and passenger being flown to UPMC Altoona.
Investigators say 74-year-old Cheryl Mravetz later succumbed to her injuries.
“These types of cases are difficult for all parties involved and no sentence is going to bring a loved one back. At the same time, the Defendant took responsibility for his actions and apologized to the victim, victims’ family, and will be serving a state prison sentence. He has to live the rest of his life knowing what happened and what he did,”
