PSP Holiday Safe Operation Campaign

With the holidays right around the corner, state police, PennDOT and the Turnpike Commission are urging drivers to “Know Before You Go.”

Before you head out on the roads for holiday travel, they say you should check 511PA for the latest road conditions and advisories.

Officials are also reminding drivers to wear their seatbelts, drive sober and eliminate distractions behind the wheel as part of their annual ‘Operation Safe Holidayā€¯ campaign.

“Throughout Operation Safe Holiday, law enforcement will also crack down on impaired drivers, beginning on Thanksgiving eve and running through the New Year holiday. Impaired driving enforcement goes beyond checking for alcohol impairment. Law enforcement will also be working to identify motorists impaired by illegal drugs, prescription medication or some combination of these.”

According to PennDOT, there were nearly 1,300 crashes involving an impaired driver during the holiday season last year, which resulted in 41 people being killed.
