Over 10,000 children in Pennsylvania are without families in the foster care system Family Care for Children and Youth said.
Youth care representatives said they have always had struggles finding kids homes, but the last few years have been even more difficult.
Director of Quality Improvement and Program Development at Family Care for Children and Youth Cassandra Mutchler-Koser said they have tried to get more people talking about the issues in foster care, but the problem has continued to grow.
“You see the advertisements for animals that need homes, We can’t really advertise kids in the same way, but the need for homes for children is huge, and so consider it.”

She said that trauma is created in the children as they are trying to find a home, potentially stunting their mental and emotional development.
“The children that they’re not able to find a home for, a foster family for, some of those kids end up in institutions or shelters, I think that that’s terrifying. I mean, I think that that’s terrifying for an adult to think about but think about it being a child.”
