Johnstown Police confirmed that a young boy is being treated for injuries sustained after a firecracker “exploded” in his hand Wednesday night.
Authorities say officers were dispatched to the 700 block of McMillen Street, in Dale Borough, around 9 p.m. Wednesday, for a report of an explosion.
Police say, upon further investigation, officers learned that an 11-year-old boy had found a firecracker and investigators say when the boy lit it, it reportedly “blew up in his hand.”
Authorities say the child suffered severe injuries to his hand and was transported to Conemaugh Hospital.
Police say the boy was listed in stable condition but has since been transferred to UPMC Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh for further evaluation.
