Authorities with the State College Police Department say a Centre County man is behind bars, accused of breaking into a local convenience store over the weekend and then assaulting one of the officers during his arrest.
According to the affidavit, police were dispatched early Saturday morning to the Snappy’s convenience store, located along University Drive, for a report of a burglary.
Police say when officers arrived on scene, they found a man, later identified as 20-year-old Shawn Cox, standing inside the store and “eating some of the merchandise.”
Authorities say Cox resisted officers’ attempts to take him into custody and caused damage to some of the store’s merchandise.
Police say once he was taken into custody, Cox allegedly kicked and spit on one of the officers.
Authorities noted that Cox was visibly intoxicated and was transported to Mount Nittany Medical Center for an evaluation, prior to being taken to jail.
According to online court records, Cox faces numerous charges, including burglary, criminal trespass and resisting arrest.
He has been arraigned to the Centre County Prison on $10,000 bail.
