Centre County Casino Dispute

The proposed Casino in Centre County was discussed Wednesday during a hearing before the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board. There was no decision on the fate of the Casino project — as Lawyers suggest it could be years before related issues are decided in Court.

In recent months, more opposition to the Casino has been heard by the College Township Council. The Casino is planned for the former Macy’s building at the Nittany Mall, but none of those issues were raised at Wednesday’s Gaming Control Board meeting. Instead, the Hearing focused on whether a Casino License can be awarded to SC Gaming OpCo, the group headed by former Penn State Trustee Ira Lubert, who paid $10 Million in an auction and was awarded the right to bid on a license. A losing bidder, Stadium Gaming LLC filed whats known as Right to Intervene — challenging Lubert’s right to bid on a Category 4 Casino License, claiming Lubert’s bid should be set aside due to questions about his other business partners.

Lubert’s Attorney’s said hes done nothing wrong, and termed part of the challenge as being “Sour Grapes from a Competitor”. The Gaming Board decided Stadium Gaming can continue with their Right to Intervene for now. Stadium Gaming has also filed a Lawsuit in the State’s Commonwealth Court challenging Lubert’s bid on similar issues. A decision on the Suit is still pending.
