Commissioners approved funding for Flood City Youth Fitness Academy Thursday.
About $106,000 from Drug and Alcohol funds were approved for the academy to buy furniture and education resources.
Officials said they plan to buy cafeteria style seating, storage and some technology to help teach students enrolled in the program.
“Flood City Youth Fitness Program is an important program for us. It’s keeping kids busy at high-risk times of day. We’re teaching kids to read, we’re providing mentorship, they’re being fed there, and we’re providing transportation back and forth from school to home, and we appreciate the support the state is giving us, and recognizing the value of this program.”
They said they hope to have the equipment in place by late spring.
