The Bellwood-Antis School District in Blair County held its annual powderpuff game on Sunday.
The game is a yearly tradition that involves junior and senior girls heading off in a flag football game on the John Hayes Field at Memorial Field with the senior girls winning this year.
But students say that what makes this game extra special is the inclusion of students with disabilities into the game.
“We always have a bunch of things where we help out inside the school with all of our special needs students,” said Gaven Ridgway, a senior at the Highschool. “We help out, we go down there, we interact so that we try to keep them an active part of our student body since you don’t see them as often. Having games likes this, it just shows that we’re giving back to them as part of the community. There are a lot of people here today that all care. Everyone comes out and we all support as a giant community here at Bellwood.”
All donations and proceeds from the game are donated to the PA Special Olympics.
