Authorities say an Altoona man has been charged with abusing two young children earlier this year.
According to a probable-cause affidavit, on May 1, 26-year-old Zachary Huber took a 2-year-old boy to UPMC Altoona and claimed that the child had fallen off a scooter.
The boy later had to be flown to UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh for treatment of fractures to his skull and femur.
According to the affidavit, in a report from Children’s Hospital, physicians found that the boy’s injuries were not consistent with Huber’s account but were rather caused by “deliberate abuse.”
Additional injuries were found at UPMC Altoona to a 2-month-old girl — who was also in Huber’s care, according to the affidavit.
Huber has been charged with several offenses, including first-degree felony aggravated assault and two third-degree felony counts of endangering the welfare of children.
He was arraigned Tuesday before District Judge Benjamin F. Jones, of Altoona, and was sent to the Blair County Prison in lieu of a $75,000 bond.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Sept. 9.
