The Free Lunch program at the Altoona Area School District for children 18-years-old and younger has been running for more than a week. School Officials say they’re seeing around 100 kids a day at each host site. They are: Altoona Junior High School and the Juniata, Irving, and Pleasant Valley Elementary Schools. The lunches have the proper nutritional balance required and adults are able to purchase meals.
Angie Fisher – Assistant Culinary Manager for Altoona Area School District saying:
“We hope to see more families come in and utilize this program. You know, with inflation; gas prices; food costs, especially, it’s hitting a number of families really hard.”
Lunch is served in the cafeterias of the host sites everyday, from 11 until 1. The District also has a special reading contest going where Students can read books for chances to win several prizes.
