Blair County Man Arrested on Sexual Assault Charges

Authorities with the Altoona Police Department say a Blair County man is behind bars after he was witnessed “having sex” with a 15-year-old girl inside a parked vehicle.

Police say on Monday, officers were dispatched to the 100 block of 5th Ave. after receiving a complaint of two individuals engaged in sexual activity inside an SUV.

According to the affidavit, witnesses told police that the vehicle had been parked and running for approximately 45 minutes prior to the officers arriving on scene.

Authorities say witnesses also claimed that during that time, several young kids had rode by the vehicle on bicycles and observed what the couple was doing.

Police say the couple reportedly stopped once the officers approached the vehicle.

Authorities say the man, later identified as 19-year-old Tyan Jenkins, of Altoona, initially provided police with a false name.

Police say the teen’s mother told officers that she had “instructed” Jenkins to stay away from her daughter and to “see women his own age.”

Officers noted that as Jenkins was being taken into custody, he reportedly shouted that “someone needed to beat her (the teen) up or kill her for this.”

Police also added that Jenkins was found in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Jenkins is being housed at the Blair County Prison on charges of statutory sexual assault, unlawful contact with a minor, corruption of minors and open lewdness, as well as drug-related charges.

His bail has been set at $40,000.
