Nearly 50 workers at the Meyersdale Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center sent notices of a strike starting next week. That’s according to the workers’ union.
A new owner Abraham Smilow is set to take over the facility on March 1st and authorities say he’s proposed a few key changes to the already agreed upon union contract.
There are three changes the nursing assistants, activity aids, dietary aids, laundry aids, and housekeeping employees do not want made.
Those are eliminating the retirement plan, contesting the amount of time off employees receive, and replacing the Union Healthcare.
A related healthcare center in erie has over 30 workers set to strike also March 1st when Smilow becomes its owner.
Authorities tell me the union is not agreeing to the changes the new owner wants to make.
We attempted to contact smilow for additional comment but have not heard back.
