The race for Johnstown Mayor has taken shape after yesterdays Primary Election with two candidates who bring very different views to the table.
We spoke with both candidates today to learn more about the kind of leaders they hope to be.
Democrat Sylvia King currently serves as Johnstown’s Deputy Mayor and says she’s focused on re-investing in local neighborhoods and promoting community safety.
And Republican John Debartola is taking a different approach, pushing for more accountability in spending.
He argues moving forward city funds should go toward essential services instead.
Debartola has been a public voice in Johnstown for years while King has served on Johnstown City Council
“My leadership style is serving leadership. I am a servant to the people. I’ve always been a servant to the people my entire life. I lead with integrity. I lead with character. And I pull up my sleeves and I do the work. I just don’t talk about it. I’m about it.”
“We have to bring business to downtown and the entire city we have to clean up our neighborhoods we have to get our people on our board they’re actually make the right decisions on all of the boards”
And both candidates say they’re duty is to make sure their listening closely to what residents want.
