The Richland Township zoning board has rejected a proposal to potentially turn the former Sears store, at the Johnstown Galleria Mall, into a storage facility.
During a meeting Tuesday evening, dozens of people showed up in support of the mall and in opposition of the proposal.
Johnstown Galleria owner Leo Karruli previously stated that he has worked hard to bring attractive new businesses to the mall and believed that a storage facility moving in would be detrimental to businesses that have opened up shop there.
Officials say the former Sears location, which is a separate entity from the mall, was purchased last year by Storage of America.
Representatives who were in favor of the storage facility noted that they have several ideas/potential plans in place moving forward.
