Johnstown Deportation Hearing

A deportation case is unfolding in the federal courthouse in Johnstown.

On Tuesday, a Venezuelan man, identified in court documents as A.S.R., reportedly filed an emergency petition to stop from being deported.

Judge Stephanie Haines then issued a temporary injunction to stop the Trump Administration from removing A.S.R.

In the court petition, his lawyer says A.S.R. arrived in Texas with his wife in 2023 but eventually moved to Philadelphia last year.

According to court documents, he was asked to attend an immigration meeting for his wife, but according to his attorney, he himself was arrested and sent to the Moshannon Valley ICE Detention Center.

His petition to stop his deportation says he was arrested for in a family dispute in New York, but the charges were later dropped.

According to his attorney, the man was reportedly considered a “pillar” in his Philadelphia community, even owning his own business, and fears being deported to his home country.

The U.S. government claims that he is a member of a gang, after a neighbor allegedly reported him to ICE authorities for being involved with the Tren de Aragua gang. His attorney is denying those claims.

The judge initially scheduled a hearing in the case for Friday, but that hearing has since been delayed to next week.
