Looking ahead to this weekend a local nonprofit is looking to go big for kids.
Organizers for Easter For Eli are preparing to host the world’s largest Easter Basket Build.
It’s going to be held at the Army National Guard Readiness Center, in Duncansville this Weekend.
Easter For Eli is a charitable organization, in memory of Eli Garrett, that provides Easter Baskets to sick children in hospitals.
Eli lost his battle with cancer in 2009, just days shy of his 4th birthday.
If you’re interested in donating to the cause you can drop off non food items or gift cards at the Readiness Center this Weekend.
Their goal, is to build 10 thousand baskets which will be distributed to hospitals, Ronald McDonald houses and Shriners Organizations in 21 states and Canada.
They also have a goal of $20 thousand dollars in gift cards this year to help offset the rising costs of travel, food and lodging for families.
“It’s been a blessing for me that the community has stepped up. I couldn’t do this without the community. I mean, I’m very grateful for every single basket that’s ever been donated, every single dollar and dime. It just alleviates a little bit of the stress for the families, and let’s them build a focus on their children and what they have going on at the time.”
The basket build event is this Weekend that’s the 12th and 13th.
The unloading of donations and sorting begins at 8 Saturday Morning and goes until its completion.
Then on Sunday Morning at 8 the basket building begins.
Anyone is welcome to come help out.
The address is on your screen again, it’s at the Army National Guard Readiness Center on Municipal Drive, in Duncansville.
Food will be provided.
And for any kids attending this Weekend the Easter Bunny will be making a special appearance.
