Johnstown Police Chief Mark Britton says they received a call to the Moxham Section of Johnstown early this morning for reports of an injured dog.
He says that upon arrival, neighbors located the dog with what appeared to be a gunshot wound below the left eye.
Britton says the dog was immediately taken to Cambria Veterinary care for treatment and that Happy Hearts and Healthy Tails will care for the dog after treatment.
Officials from that organization say the dog was in surgery throughout late morning and early afternoon
Once out of surgery, those officials say they will be covering the cost of the vet bill and will be asking for donations through Facebook.
Police say they’re actively investigating the incident and searching cameras in the Moxham area.
Anyone with information is being asked to contact the Johnstown Police Department.
