Authorities in Cambria County say a county employee is facing charges, accused of stealing funds from multiple booster groups connected to the Greater Johnstown School District.
Officials say 47-year-old Mylenea A.L. White, of Johnstown, is alleged to have stolen about $40,000 from two accounts linked to two high school sports teams within the Greater Johnstown district.
State police say there was more than $30,000 stolen from the Johnstown football booster account between April 2022 and September 2024.
They say another over $13,000 was taken from the girls basketball boosters between July 2023 and November 2024.
“The Pennsylvania State Police received a complaint into this activity and did a thorough and exhaustive investigation into the matter. The Johnstown School District was fully cooperative throughout, and we appreciate their willingness to assist law enforcement. As this is an ongoing matter, more information may be released at a later date as may be appropriate,”
County commissioners say White worked for the probation office, and according to the county’s website she is the chief probation officer.
County officials add that they are cooperating with law enforcement and White has been placed on leave.
“Cambria County has been made aware of an investigation which was conducted by the District Attorney’s office and State Police regarding the alleged theft of funds from booster groups at Greater Johnstown School District.Whereas the allegations do not involve the County or the Probation Department, the County holds their employees to a high standard and takes all allegations of theft seriously, regardless of their origin. At this point in time, it is the County’s understanding that these are allegations; however, the County will work with local law enforcement in whatever capacity is necessary as they continue to conduct their investigation. We thank the District Attorney’s office for its assistance in this matter. Because the charges involve an employee of the County, we will follow our internal process in dealing with personnel matters of this nature until a final verdict/decision is reached. In accordance with county policy, Ms. White has been placed on leave; because this is a personnel matter, the county will not comment further.”
According to investigators, White was arraigned late Tuesday afternoon on multiple theft-related charges and was released on unsecured bail.
Officials have not yet disclosed what role White was in that granted her access to the accounts.
“Greater Johnstown School District also released a statement on the investigation and noted that it will work to remedy the alleged thefts.
The district had been made aware of an investigation which was conducted by the District Attorney’s office regarding the alleged theft of funds from two (2) booster groups at Greater Johnstown School District. The board and administration thanks the DA’s office for its thorough investigation and assistance in this matter. Booster groups are separate entities from the district and their funds are held in a separately account. However, the district will continue to work with law enforcement and with the local booster groups to help remedy this situation to the best of their ability.”
