Officials say an elderly woman was killed in a fire earlier Tuesday evening in Cambria County.
County coroner Jeff Lees says that just before 5:30 p.m., crews were called to a duplex, along the 600 block of 6th Street, in Adams Township, after an elderly woman was reportedly cooking over the stove when her clothes caught on fire.
Investigators say a neighbor reportedly heard the smoke alarms and rushed over to put out the fire with an extinguisher before fire crews arrived.
Officials say the neighbor’s actions prevented more damage being done to the home, but the flames were unfortunately enough for the woman to succumb to her injuries.
“My office, along with the PSP fire marshal, are going to be conducting the investigation. An autopsy will be performed Wednesday to determine the exact cause of death,”
