Cambria County District Attorney Greg Neugebauer announced that state police have completed their independent investigation of the officer involved shooting that occurred on Jan. 9.
Investigators have concluded that the Johnstown police officer who discharged his firearm was “justified” in doing so.
“The Officer had a right to protect himself from death or serious bodily injury, and his actions were reasonable and legally proper under the facts and circumstances of the event,” Neugebauer said.
The events that led up to the officer firing his weapon stemmed from police searching for an armed burglary suspect, which led to a chase through the Woodvale section of town.
Police later arrested the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Jaymir Hall-Huger, after he was rescued from the Conemaugh River.
Hall-Huger faces a slew of charges, including burglary, criminal trespass, fleeing/eluding police and reckless endangerment.
