US Election Meddling by Foreign Actors

Foreign fingerprints are found in an alleged plot to confuse and intimidate U.S. Voters. This announcement from U.S. Officials comes less than two-weeks before Election Day. U.S. Intelligence Officials say there’s been an attempt to disrupt the upcoming Presidential Election. John Ratcliffe, the Director of National Intelligence saying: “We have confirmed that some voter registration information has been obtained by Iran and, separately, by Russia.” Ratcliffe says these Foreign Actors are trying to spread falsehoods and to undermine Voters’ confidence in the system. According to U.S. Intel Officials, Iran allegedly posed as the far-right group “Proud Boys”, sending Voters intimidating e-mails warning: “Vote for Trump or else!”

Carrie Cordero, a CNN Legal and National Security Analyst saying: “They are trying to warn the American people in real time about foreigner interference in the election. And that is a real significant change in the transparency from the intelligence community versus the last major election.” FBI Director Christopher Wray says Voters should remain confident in the political process. Wray saying: “As always, the men and women of the FBI remain committed to protecting the American people, our democracy and the integrity of our elections. We are not going to let our guard down.”

The White House released a statement saying President Trump has directed Federal Authorities to “Proactively monitor and thwart any attempts to interfere in US Elections.” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff put out a joint statement that denounced “Voter intimidation or interference efforts.”
