Two men were honored at the Walnut Grove Church of the Brethren in Johnstown on Sunday for their 30 year service with the food pantry.
Kenneth Reed and Arn Locher are both in their 80s and have been working with the church’s food pantry since 1992.
“Both of them just give, and that’s something that’s been instilled in them since they were very young,” said Pastor Brad Griesheimer of Walnut Grove Church of the Brethren.
Pastor Griesheimer says the men have touched the lives of 60 to 70 families per month by volunteering.
Reed and Locher both received a standing ovation by their congregation Sunday morning where they were honored with plaques and cards.
“They got me into (the food pantry) because I had a pickup truck, and I could go pick up stuff,” Reed said laughing.
Both men say they hope future generations pick up where they left off.
“We had good people to work with, and it was just something we enjoyed doing,” said Locher.
