Homeland Security says the TSA now has the authority to enforce President Biden’s mask mandate for passengers using mass transit. On Monday, workers for the Transportation Security Administration will be making sure passengers at screening checkpoints wear face masks. The Biden order applies to any form of public transportation, on board planes, trains, buses, boats, subways, taxis, and ride-shares. The rule also applies inside airports and other transportation hubs.
The TSA hasn’t said yet how it plans to enforce the order. However, the CDC said it reserves the right to apply Criminal Penalties against any offenders. Under the new mandate, the mask needs to have at least two or more layers of breathable fabric and fit snugly. Gaiters must be made with at least two layers of fabric but scarves and bandanas do not meet the new mask mandate standard.
