President Donald Trump’s positive Coronavirus test is the latest twist in a tumultuous election year, and it could further hamper his reelection bid with just over a month until Election Day, pulling him off the campaign trail and off his message while he quarantines at the White House.
Aides said Friday the president was experiencing “mild” symptoms but planned to continue working without disruption. Trump’s age, weight, and gender put him at increased risk for serious complications, but if his condition does not get worse, he could recover within about a week.
It is unknown exactly when or how President Trump contracted the virus. A close aide, Hope Hicks, began exhibiting symptoms during a campaign trip to Minnesota Wednesday and tested positive Thursday. Trump was not tested until later Thursday, after he attended a fundraiser in New Jersey where he reportedly appeared “lethargic” and was in close contact with dozens of people.
