Sunnehanna Hosts U.S. Amateur Qualifier

It’s been about 3 weeks since the Sunnehanna Amateur Tournament for Champions but golfers from all over are back in Johnstown they all have one hope to play in 121st U.S. Amateur at Oakmont Country Club this summer

To get there, the Sunnehanna Country Club is hosting a two day qualifying tournament for the U.S. Amateur that began Today

The familiar faces are back in Cambira County.

Murrysville native Palmer Jackson finished tied for 4th in the Sunnehanna Amateur on the par 4 second hole tee shot in the fairway here is his second that lands on the green he two putted for par.

He was tied for 6th earlier in the day at 1 under

Next we have the 2017 U.S. Senior Amateur winner Sean Knapp on the par 3 5th hole the National Champion with a birdie

On to number 6 a par 4 Knapp on the green in two with a long putt for a chance at back to back birdies that will land just short, Knapp two putted for par he finished the day in 5th place
at two under par

Up next a local guy killing it in the pros Sam Lafferty from Hollidaysburg right wing for the Pittsburgh Penguins member at Sunnehanna out of the beach on 15 a lengthy putt for birdie
just to the right of the cup he two putted for par

Now we all know this next last name Lemieux, Austin Lemieux son of the hockey legend Mario Lemeixu he is out of the bunker with some help from the flag pole Lemeiux finished the par 4 eighth hole with a bogey a cut will be made Tonight once everyone is finished about 40% of the golfer will return tomorrow top 5 finishers play in Oakmont this August
