Sunnehanna Amateur Day One Recap

The 68th playing of the Sunnehanna Amateur Tournament of Champions kicked off on Wednesday at Sunnehanna. Beautiful weather for it. Here’s your day one recap.

John Patrick Daly II, son of two time Major Champ John Daly was on the green on Wednesday.

On 18, Indiana’s Clay Merchent from just off the green. He gets a good roll but leaves a rester. Merchent finishes it off dead center. He carded a two under 68, two off the lead.

On 17, Stanford Cardinal Karl Vilips — this is for par just off the green. What a roll to stay at -2. On 18, Vilips taps it in for par and cards a two under 68, just two shots back.

Georgia Southern’s Ben Carr was making a huge push through the middle of the round. He gets a nice drive at the par 5-11th. Carr with a lengthy look for Eagle and almost gets it. He taps it in to get to -3, just one shot off the lead after 11. He would fall off a bit on his final 7 to finish the day even par.
