It’s been a dry Summer, but for Road Construction Crews, that’s not a bad thing. We talked with PennDOT Officials about how projects are progressing as Summer nears it’s halfway point.
PennDOT Officials say the weather this Summer has allowed them to stay on track with the more than sixty ongoing projects in District Two, which covers nine counties including right here in Centre County. PennDOT says that with the recent heat waves in the area, they have put an emphasis on making sure workers are hydrated and not overexposed, as this time of year is busy for them.
Tim Nebgen of PennDOT saying: “They’re going to talk about things like making sure that they have a rotation schedule, so that the workers are not spending more time than is recommended in those sorts of elements, and all of our crews are going to have water available to them out in the field.”
Officials say that other than the heat, the weather this Summer has been about average, and allowed them to stay on schedule. Currently, they are working on improving more than thirty bridges and 180 roadway miles in the area. Steve Fantechi of PennDOT saying: “I don’t see this as much different than any other year, we have a nine-county region here and from all the way down in Juniata County to all the way up to McKean and Potter County, there’s lot of projects in between and you hit a lot of different weather depending on the region you’re in.”
PennDOT says most of their construction projects will wrap up by Thanksgiving, and they will use these next months to try and get as much done as they can.
