Somerset County Sues over Mail In Ballots

Four Somerset County voters, along with a congressional candidate, filed a lawsuit Thursday against Secretary of State Kathy Boockvar and many County Boards of Elections.

These plaintiffs are challenging a recent deadline extension which would allow mail-in ballots to be counted up to three days after Election Day on November 3rd.

The decision was made last month by the State Supreme Court, shifting the deadline for mail-in ballots for the upcoming presidential election from November 3rd at 8pm to November 6th at 5pm.

They are to be counted even if they don’t have a clear postmark, and as long as there’s no proof showing it was mailed after the polls closed.

We reached out to officials from the PA Department of State, who said they “can’t comment on active litigation.”

We also reached out to their attorney, Bradley King, but have not heard back.
