Senator Pat Toomey is expected to announce Monday that he will not be seeking re-election or run for Pennsylvania governor, according to a report from the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Reports indicate that Toomey will finish out his current Senate term, but is then expected to step away from politics.
Sen. Toomey was elected to his current Senate seat in 2010.
He also served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1999 to 2005.
Toomey’s reported “surprise” decision will likely leave the 2022 gubernatorial race “wide-open,” according to officials like Charlie Gerow, a Republican official in Harrisburg.
