It’s time for another installment of Retro Recipes where KC and her niece Mallory try out a recipe from a bygone era. This month, they’re making Flop Cake.
- 1 cup flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ cup sugar
- ½ cup milk
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- ½ cup flour
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons cold butter, chopped into pieces
Preheat oven to 350.
Use some butter or some cooking spray on a 9-inch pie pan. Be generous so the cake doesn’t stick.
Combine the cake ingredients in a bowl, and mix well into a dough. Transfer the dough to the pie pan and distribute equally. You can use your hands to smooth things out.
Sprinkle the flour on top of the dough, then sprinkle the brown sugar and cinnamon.
Lightly press the pieces of chopped butter through the topping, distributing equally around the top of the cake.
Bake for about 30 minutes, but check at 20 minutes.
Enjoy with a glass of milk or hot cup of coffee!
