We’re continuing our coverage of the anniversary of the Quecreek mine rescue in Somerset County.
20 Years ago nine miners were trapped deep underground waiting with bated breath for their eventual rescue.
It was later on this evening 20 years ago that rescuers finally broke through 240 feet of bedrock and the miracle would begin.
This week, we spoke with some of the miners and why they say those involved with the rescue deserve most of the credit.
“I said it time and time again, we wouldn’t even be here if it wasn’t for the rescuers. They tell us still that we were the heroes. We’re not the heroes, those guys were the heroes.”
77 Hours after the miners were trapped they were rescued in the early morning hours 20 years ago.
