The Nittany Lions had their biggest test yet this Season on Saturday. They were on the road against a tough number three Iowa. Since James Franklin took over in 2014, Penn State is 4-1 against Kirk Ferentz’s group, but throw the record books out because none of that mattered for this Top 5 matchup.
After throwing a pick on his first attempt, Sean Clifford turned things around. Noah Cain fought his way into the Endzone for a Touchdown for Penn State. That was his third this year. Early on it was a close game, until Penn State posted 17 unanswered points.
Saturday proved that Clifford is the heart and soul of this group. That really showed when he left the game in the 2nd Quarter and did not return. A hit by Jack Campbell changed the future of this game. There is still no official word on Clifford’s injury, but after his exit, Iowa outscored Penn State 20-3. Clifford was the difference maker despite throwing two interceptions.
Back-up Quarterback Ta’quan Roberson could not deliver in the hostile Hawkeye environment. Roberson went 7 of 21 — only 34 passing yards and two interceptions.
Fans stormed the field after Iowa beat Penn State 23-20.
