PSU Falls in AP Poll

The AP Top 25 Poll was released Sunday Afternoon. Penn State fell 13 spots all the way to #20. The Pitt Panthers are actually now in front of PSU at spot #17.

The Nittany Lions have some room to improve. They lost their second game of the Season on Saturday in 9 Overtimes to 1 Dimensional Illinois Offense. The Fighting Illini only had 38 total receiving yards in Beaver Stadium, but had close to 400 yards on the ground. #2 Chase Brown led all Rushers with 223 yards. Joshua McCray, #0 for Illinois, was another weapon that the Nittany Lions could not stop. McCray added another 142 rushing yards, giving Illinois 357 rushing yards all together. No team had rushed for more than 300 yards this Season against Penn State before this game. In fact, only 2 other teams had over 200 rushing yards against the Nittany Lions this year.

Senior Defensive Tackle Derrick Tangelo commended the Illinois Coaches on their preparation for Penn State. At 2-5, Illinois came off their bye week and took over, shaking up things in the BIG10. Tangelo also spoke on the difficulties in stopping the run on Saturday, specifically against Chase Brown. See video for comments from Derrick Tangelo…

5 BIG10 Teams now are in the Top 25, but Penn State is the only BIG10 Team not within the Top 10. Iowa is ranked 9th, Michigan State is at 8, Michigan at 6th, and Ohio State are the Top Dogs at #5.
