PSU Economic Plan

Penn State is now looking to the state for funding to help their economic development plan.

Governor Tom Wolf’s the latest budget plan includes millions of dollars for business start up programs included on that list Penn State with a $2.35million dollars special allocation aimed at helping to boost the university’s launch box and invent Penn State programs.

They provide those with new business ideas with support and expertise.

Last November, University President Eric Barron told state lawmakers the state money will help support the funding network already in place.

“The extra revenue is needed to now hire more support staff. We are now meeting head on our success story because thousands of people are going through our Lauchboxes. Hundreds of people are seeking free legal assistance.Community members are walking in and it could be something as simple as I want to create a bakery shop in my community. There’s nothing. Can you help me with my business plan?”

Thursday, at a State House Appropriations hearing, the head of Pennsylvania’s Department of Community and Economic Development said the Penn State allocation is worthwhile because the university’s statewide outreach programs
