Structural issues at prospect forced all residents of Johnstown’s Prospect Community to move out last year. With work continuing on the first group of apartments, it seems like we may soon be finding out when the residents could start moving back in.
Between 20 and 30 apartments are a part of phase one of the construction according to Johnstown Housing Authority executive director Michael Alberts. The plan is still to move prospect residents in as construction finishes on chunks of apartments.
Right now, a date is not available for when people could move back in Alberts said. When the work does finish on this phase the apartments will be turned back over to the housing authority and its maintenance staff will also have some work to do before the units can be occupied again Alberts said.
He adds that they are expecting to learn more in the next few weeks.
A former resident of prospect and now chairman of its tenant’s association Jeffrey Matula Jr. said it has been a bumpy road over the last year and a half for the people of prospect and he is hoping to get as many residents back as quickly as possible.
“Residents want to get out of the areas that they’re in, But hey, it’s coming along smoothly. If they’re planning to do 20-30 apartments, go for it. The more the better.”
Matula said it is his goal to have some people moved back in for the Holidays.
