Pirates Trade Day

Happy MLB trade deadline day!

There have been so many blockbusters around the league, Javy Baez to the Mets, Kris Bryant to the Giants, Anthony Rizzo and Joey Gallo to the Yanks, Max Sherzer and Trea Turner to the Dodgers
the list goes on and on and on the Pirates don’t have quite those names.

But they did deal perhaps their second best deadline piece Today

Adam Frazier was already sent to the Padres he was the Pirates number one chip but now, closer Richard Rodriguez is on the way out, the Pirates agreed to send Rich Rod to Atlanta in exchange for righties Bryse Wilson and Ricky Devito from Atlanta

The 23 year old Wilson made his Major League debut 20 years, 243 days old, on August 20, 2018, at Pittsburgh,

During last year’s playoffs, he limited the Dodgers to one run on one hit in 6.0 innings in Game Four of the National League Championship Series to become just the second rookie pitcher in baseball history to start his postseason debut and allow no more than one hit in at least 6.0 innings.

The 22-year-old DeVito has gone 0-3 with a 2.66 ERA (20.1ip/6er), 27 strikeouts and .232 batting average against in five appearances (five starts) this season with High A Rome prior to being placed on the injured list on June 9.

The Buccos also made another trade

The Pittsburgh Pirates today acquired infielder Michael Chavis from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for pitcher Austin Davis.

The 25-year-old Chavis has hit .234 (134-for-572) with 19 doubles, four triples, 25 home runs and 83 RBI in 168 career games with Boston since being selected by the Red Sox with the 26th overall pick in the 2014 FirstYear Player Draft.

The right-handed hitting Chavis has split the 2021 season between Boston and Worcester of the Triple A East League. He has made a total of 22 appearances (14 starts) at second base and eight
appearances (five starts) at first base while hitting .190 (15-for-79) with four doubles, one triple, two home runs and six RBI in 31 games with the Red Sox.
