Pirates 1st Overall Draft Pick

Now in case you missed it Sunday night, it was the MLB Draft and the Pirates were on the clock with the Number One Overall Pick. To some, their selection was a little bit of a surprise. Many Experts had the Buccos going middle infield (plenty of great High School Short Stops in this Draft) or a big arm (like those at Vandy, either Jack Leiter or Kumar Rocker) but they did not go the conventional route.

Instead, the went for Louisville Catcher Henry Davis, who at times was described as the best bat in the Draft by Experts, but its hard to dispute he was the most polished College bat going for .370 at the plate with 15 long balls during 50 games with the Cards this year.

Jack Leiter went Number Two Overall to the Rangers, so lets hope this pick is more of a Neil Walker type deal than a Pedro Alvarez or Cole Tucker. Only time will tell.
