Osagie Lawsuit

New accusations in the 2019 police involved deadly shooting of a State College man.

The new allegations involve whether the former police officer who pulled the trigger was fit for duty.

That’s the issue raised by attorneys for the family of Osaze Osagie.

Osagie was shot and killed when 3 State College police officers were called to help Osagie on a mental health warrant.

In a new filing in a federal court suit it’s claimed that former State College officer M. Joradn Pieniazek, who fatally shot Osagie, engaged in excessive alcohol and domestic abuse and was acting erratically just days before the
fatal shooting.

An over riding issue in the Osagie’s lawsuit centers on the Borough’s crisis intervention training for police personnel.

“According to the police department’s internal review, the officers on scene followed their training. if thats true then their training has to change.”

The borough has denied claims that the police training was insufficient.

According to the lawsuit, Peniazek left the State College Police a few months after the shooting.
