Omicron Cases on the Rise

With the Omicron variant taking hold and COVID cases spiking in recent days, it’s now at unprecedented levels. Now, those that are hospitalized with COVID are trending in that
unprecedented direction as well.

The sheer volume of cases, which was more than 1,000,000 cases alone today nationally, is now putting already strained hospitals on the brink, with Pennsylvania seeing case averages
double since Christmas.

Hospitalizations are beginning to rise, up 24% in just a week, local hospitals saying that they are putting off elective procedures to avoid capacity concerns and adding to those
concerns. Kids going back to school at a time where pediatric hospitalizations are spiking into record territory across the nation, meaning that while it may be milder for adults, that
is Omicron we’re speaking of it could pose a greater risk to children.

“It appears to be more of an upper airway disease and a lower airway disease that’s good for most Americans. The one group that that may be a problem for his very young kid, very young
children, toddlers who have trouble with upper airway infections.”

Philadelphia schools are going back to virtual learning due to the fast moving situation. six in ten Americans said they are worn out by the pandemic and a Monmouth University poll and
federal strike teams have been deployed to parts of Pennsylvania this week, where some health care systems are beyond their breaking point.
