The historic old stone jail in Ebensburg has been sold, officials announced Monday.
The Cambria County Commissioners said in a release that the historic structure has been acquired by DSherwoodD Enterprises.
They said the ownership was transferred from Cambria County and the Redevelopment Authority of Cambria County to DSherwoodD Enterprises Jan. 31.
The stone jail located at the corner of North Center and West Sample streets housed prisoners since its establishment in 1872 until 1997.
It’s since been listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has been featured on multiple ghost-hunting television shows including “Destination Fear” and “Paranormal Lockdown.”
Officials say they always had plans to repurpose the facility rather than tearing it down.
Cleanup and repairs are scheduled to start this summer before the property is restored into a “multi-use facility.”
