Dozens of homes in Cambria County were affected by flooding late last week and right now the community affected most is not in position to get help from the state.
This comes after more than 20 counties in the state were included in a disaster declaration by the Governor.
One local resident, says he spent much of his weekend clearing out his basement and throwing away items that were damaged from the flood with many others in Northern Cambria suffering in a similar way.
Sewage system malfunctions likely played a role in the flooding along with the storm.
Bedford County is the only county in the area included in Governor Shapiro’s disaster declaration With Cambria County not being included in that list.
A Representative of the PA Emergency Management Agency says most or all of the counties in that declaration received flash flood warnings from the National Weather Service.
PEMA says counties can be added to the list as more continue reporting damages and that they will be working with County Emergency Management Offices.
PEMA adds that anyone who sustained damages should report to their municipal or county Emergency Management Offices.
“Financially, emotionally, I can’t even describe it. I’ve never felt this way before in my life.”
Vice President and acting President of Northern Cambria Borough Council Jason Whited also says they will be looking for state help for the community in the coming weeks
