Parking in Johnstown is about to get more modernized and more expensive.
Starting Monday you can use the Passport Parking App to pay for parking on your cell phone.
The parking rates will be going up from 25 cents for a half hour to 25 cents for 15 minutes.
City officials say they will then use that money to repair parking garages.
They also say it’s a more convenient option for both community members and business leaders.
“If they’re in a meeting, and the meeting is going longer, they can extend their time on the phone. The phone will actually notify them when the time is expiring, so they can add time if they want to.”
Ritter says you can still use quarters if you don’t want to use the App.
