Johnstown police have charged a local man following an investigation into accusations that he raped a woman, on multiple occasions, inside a rental property located in the West End section of the city, according to a criminal complaint.
Police say 33-year-old David McCormick Jr. has been charged with three counts each of rape, sexual assault and indecent assault, as well as one count of making terroristic threats, according to online court records.
Authorities say on January, 21, of this year, officers were dispatched to Conemaugh Memorial Hospital to speak with a woman who alleged that McCormick had raped her.
Police say the victim, who had recently moved to Johnstown from Ohio, told officers that she first met McCormick while attempting to contact a friend, and learned that McCormick now possessed her friend’s old phone number.
The complaint states that over time, McCormick convinced the woman to move to Johnstown and told her that he knew of a rental property that she could stay at, police note.
Investigators say that during the first week that she lived in Johnstown, the victim told police that McCormick raped her three separate times, despite her objections to his advances.
Police also learned that McCormick told the victim, on multiple occasions, about his knife and gun collection and threatened to shoot the victim as well, according to the complaint.
McCormick was arraigned on Nov. 9, court dockets show, and is being housed at the Cambria County Prison on $150,000 bail.
His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 30.
