Local Countys Vaccine Preperations

Sandy Township’s EMA Director Larry Bickel says they chose the Dubois Mall and Clearfield County Career & Technical Center to distribute the COVID-19 vaccine when it becomes available.

He says they chose those sites because of their geographic location and high population.

Even though they’re in the early phases of planning, he says they’re ready for whenever a vaccine becomes available.

Officials say they’re also looking at an outdoor facility for an option too.

Jefferson County is also preparing to distribute the COVID-19 vaccine.

EMA officials say their sites for distribution are established but the plan is not completely finalized.

According to Mark Taylor, EMA Director for Blair County they did an exercise at the James Van Zandt Medical Center using the flu vaccine to see how mass vaccination would go.

“Even the open testing we’re doing at the convention center is an exercise within itself because it would be very similar to where you would have a drive thru and the in person we’re prepared our plans have been submitted to the Department of Health not sure how that’s going to be rolled out.”

Officials says public safety will drive future site plans for distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine.
