Kepler Pool Closed for Rehab Work

Swimming is always one of the top summertime activities and right now there’s added focus with the Tokyo Olympics.

In one area community an effort continues to restore a community resource so kids and others can again enjoy time in the pool.

No swimming Today at Bellefonte’s Kepler pool where a rehab project continues, with a lot of attention this week on Olympic swimming, community pools like these are where a lot of those swimmers get their start swimming an activity that can have lifetime benefits, thats easy and inexpensive to do

“Its a great sport, there are more people swimming now and it reflects why need this community resource”

The Kepler pool first opened 50 years ago. This summer, and in recent years, the wear and tear, with leaky plumbing and liner causing more problems. Now the focus is on, instead of temporary patch work, to do a complete overhaul with long term benefits

“At the small pool we’ll have a zero slope entrance with upgrades and then in the main pool we’ll also have a zero slope entrance with a sliding pool”

Kepler is the only outdoor community pool in the Bellefonte area, And in past summers has drawn thousands. Its located at Governors Park another Bellefonte resource

“Governors park is a great park, its as nice as any park in State College or Centre County”

Over three hundred thousand dollars in state funding has been secured for the Kepler upgrade, and whats in the works is a public fund raising campaign for the pool improvement work

If all goes well, the pool is expected to reopen next summer.
