One Cambria County family is turning a negative tragedy into a positive nonprofit dedicated to helping others.
Andrea Roberts lost her son Joshua Szala on August 1st, 2019.
In his memory, she created a nonprofit with a goal of supporting newborns and their families throughout their first year of life.
With her son’s initials in mind JMS she called it “Just My Smile.”
“He was just getting to the point in his life where he was ready to start his own family. I thought, what better way to let him hold all the babies, than to start Just My Smile,” she told 6 News.
Organizers held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday in Johnstown to commemorate the organization.
Families can connect with mentors for support, guidance, and quarterly assessments.
New parents can also get baby items like clothing, bottles, and wipes through the nonprofit.
“If I was going to move forward in this life and survive, I knew I had to do something positive in Josh’s memory,” Andrea said.
Just My Smile will also be able to connect new families with resources throughout the community.
